About Robot Mower Guide
Robot mowers compared for your lawn, not the brochure
The big split in robot mowers is how they know where the lawn ends: a buried boundary wire, or RTK and vision navigation with no wire at all. Robot Mower Guide compares mowers on that, on slope and on coverage, then ranks them so you can pick one suited to your yard.
How we approach a comparison
Why this site exists
Acreage claims everywhere, answers nowhere
Robot mower searches serve up sponsored models, model numbers that look like acreage, wire kits, garages and replacement blades all in the same grid. Slope ratings and wire requirements are often buried, and two listings with similar names can need very different setups.
We rank three lists: best robot lawn mowers, wire-free robot mowers and robot mowers for large lawns, five each. The wire-free list requires explicit no-perimeter-wire wording, and the large-lawn list needs a stated capacity of at least half an acre.
45% from owner stars
Uses the Amazon average of the exact listing, trimmed when only a few owners have weighed in.
35% from review volume
A log-scale count credits robots with a long track record over ones that just launched.
20% from documented specs
Rewards listings that state coverage, slope and navigation clearly. A verdict page for every ranked mower lays out that split, its strong suits and what to verify on your property.
Know your yard first
Wire, slope and acreage decide it
- Boundary wire or wire-free
- Wired robots need a perimeter laid and maintained; wire-free models depend on satellite signal or cameras, which trees and buildings can affect.
- Steepest slope
- Compare the stated slope limit with the steepest part of your lawn, not the average.
- Area and zones
- Separate front and back lawns or narrow passages change what a coverage figure means; the lawn coverage planner helps you size it.
Commissions and the ranking
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Those earnings are kept out of the method, and mowers are ordered purely by score. That score is our own editorial rating rather than the customer rating Amazon displays, and it is refreshed as listings change.
